World Bank report highlights the downsides of remittances

The World Bank reckons that Latin America received US$60bn in remittances in 2006. This makes the region the world's biggest receiver of remittances. Unusually, the report looks beyond the figures and argues that remittances may not be an undiluted blessing. This builds on research by Hugo Acero for the UN which also concluded that remittances were not an unmitigated boon.
